Weight management

Adopting healthy behaviours and making lifestyle choices to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

Maintaining a healthy weight is a complex and personal journey that goes beyond just physical appearance. At our Weight Management Support Program, our dedicated Someone.health psychologists offer compassionate and evidence-based support to help individuals navigate the challenges associated with weight management.

Signs You May Benefit from Weight Management Support:

  • Emotional Eating: Using food as a way to cope with stress, anxiety, or other emotions.

  • Yo-Yo Dieting: Engaging in repetitive cycles of weight loss and regain without sustainable results.

  • Body Image Concerns: Struggling with self-esteem and body image, regardless of actual weight.

  • Binge Eating: Consuming large amounts of food in a short period, often feeling a lack of control during episodes.

  • Lack of Motivation: Finding it challenging to maintain a consistent exercise routine or make healthy food choices.

  • Health Complications: Experiencing weight-related health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or joint problems.

Our Approach to Weight Management:

  • Holistic Assessment: Our psychologists conduct a comprehensive assessment to understand the emotional, behavioural, and environmental factors influencing weight management.

  • Individualised therapy: Tailored counselling/therapy sessions to explore and address the underlying emotional triggers for overeating or unhealthy habits.

  • Cognitive-behavioural Therapy (CBT): Evidence-based therapeutic techniques to identify and modify thought patterns that contribute to unhealthy behaviours.

  • Mindful Eating Practices: Introducing mindfulness techniques to enhance awareness of eating habits, hunger, and fullness cues.

  • Behavioural Interventions: Developing practical strategies to implement lasting lifestyle changes, including exercise routines and nutritional choices.

  • Body Positivity: Fostering a positive relationship with one's body, promoting self-acceptance and self-care.

Take the First Step Toward a Healthier You:

Embarking on a journey to better health and well-being is a significant step, and our compassionate psychologists are here to support you every step of the way. If you're ready to take control of your weight management journey, find the right psychologist for you today and schedule a consultation. Together, let's work towards sustainable and positive changes that contribute to your overall health and happiness.

Frequently Asked Questions

How will I know the therapy is working for me?

It will not always be obvious and it could be gradual. But when you start feeling better, then that means that the therapy is working.

You'll also be able to see things more clearly as you progress with your talk therapy. Healing, however, is not always so clear-cut. There will always be ups and downs. If that happens, you can talk to your psychologist about your progress and be open with what you're feeling.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

There are many studies proving online and face-to-face therapy are equally as effective.

Yes. Studies (like this one) have shown online therapy is just as effective as face to face. Similarly, research (like this one) demonstrates the importance of being able to quickly access care when needed.

Are all your psychologists registered?

Australia has regulatory bodies to ensure we maintain consistent and high standards across the psychology profession.

Yes. They are registered with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA), listed with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and individually selected and monitored by Someone.health's expert clinical team.

How long does it take to see a psychologist?

Appointments are available immediately

Once you have signed up and we have verified your details, you can choose a psychologist who is available immediately. Our website displays in order of the first available appointment.

Can a psychologist prescribe medication?

Only your GP or a psychiatrist can prescribe medication.

Medication can only be prescribed by medical doctors, which includes general practitioners (GPs) and psychiatrists.

If you need the services of a psychiatrist, please visit Call To Mind, a telehealth service specialising in psychiatry.
